Chemistry Week 5

I don't really like to pay attention to new diets, and discussion of alkaline vs acidic foods seems a little derivative to me. I don't understand the theory behind want to make an acidic food (such as a lemon) have an alkalizing action in the body. I feel like these kinds of ideas are once again missing the poin, which for me is about paying attention to our own experiences. Having a list of foods saying this is bad and this is good is a set up for people to develop unhealthy relationships with food and eating. One thing that Dr. Phillips emphasized is that I remember from last trimester was that our bodies generally do a good job of maintaining a particular pH balance and that  when this gets out of whack, this is a big problem. I also believe that all of the wisdom about food and nourishment can be found in Chinese medicine. Focus on fad diets is at best a distraction.

Physics Week 5

I think it could be possible that our universe is symmetrical, but I would ask symmetrical along what axis and using what dimensions to measure the symmetry. I think what is interesting is the concept of reversibility of time and the idea that perhaps an observer could view the events of the world in reverse and that in reverse it could make sense logically. This is maybe not exactly about symmetry, but seems related to me. Like if the universe does stop expanding and eventually contracts, and time also slows and then reverses, there would be symmetry in the universe, the axis would be the big bang, and the dimension would be time. Experiments I tried the optical illusion experiment. The first image was a grid with black squares separated by white. I definitely saw the gray dots in between the squares.  i tried enlarging the image to see if this would make the gray dots disappear, and it did not. I did notice after enlarging that if I focus...

Chemistry Week 4

I don't have a huge variety of colors in my kitchen right now. I just moved and so don't have a huge amount of fresh food yet. I have some herbs and greens, all of which are green. I also have some rice and grits and whole barley, which are white, yellow, and tan, respectively. Then I have some dry spices that are green, brown, and red, and yellow. And some soy sauce that is black. I have some blueberries that are blue/blueish-purple. I had been getting these yummy blood oranges that were orange on the outside and a mix of orange to dark magenta on the inside. They were very yummy and beautiful. I think its great to have a variety of foods that you eat, but I think worrying too much about the colors is not the point. Yes eating a variety of vibrantly colored foods can be wonderful, but i also think simple, tasty meals are great. I also think that its possible to have too much variety, and a person ends of confusing their body by never giving it enough of the same thing. What I...
